Gryźliny airfield

In Olsztyn County, on the site of a former German military airfield in Gryźliny a new public airfield is being constructed. Already now planes may take off and land on a perfectly-prepared grass runway.

How it all began?

The airfield grounds are managed jointly by the Commune of Stawiguda and Olsztyn County. The owners received a permission to set up an airfield from the Civil Aviation Authority in Warsaw as early as 2003, but before it became an airfield in its own right, its grounds were home to county fairs, and even horse races organised by specialists from racing grounds in Służewiec. Small planes would land in Gryźliny, but only incidentally. In 2004, the grounds were fenced off and the runway was levelled and marked in compliance with the regulations.

We have an airfield!

Pilots who had a chance to land on the airstrip in Gryźliny say that it meets even the most demanding expectations. The take-off and landing are not only safe, but also soft - without causing any discomfort for pilots and crews!

The airfield is located at 53/36/29 N, 20/20/40 E.

The airport is owned by the County Authority in Olsztyn and the Commune of Stawiguda.

The airfield has the status of grounds adapted to take-offs and landings, in accordance with the operation manual 62/Szymany/16.08.2004. On site, there is a working radio station. Also installed are wind indicators.

In near future ...

In the past year the construction of an airport service building was completed. On site, a filling station was also set up. On 11 May 2005, the Governor of the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Province issued a permit greenlighting these projects. The airfield in Gryźliny caught interest of investors having previous aviation experience. Their involvement in Gryźliny creates very interesting prospects. Olsztyn County is a highly attractive region for tourists from all over Europe. Located near Gryźliny is a holiday resort in Łańsk - at the weekend, you will get there faster by plane than by car taking the road from Warsaw, always busy in high season. Beautifully located amidst lakes and forests, the airport is bound to charm every tourist, already before the touchdown.
